Anita Woolf, 20, from Polebrook, Nothamptonshire is a second year BEng Mechanical Engineering student and recipient of the Pig Industry Award with Farmex.
“I was very interested in the placement at Farmex which encouraged me to apply for this scholarship. It holds great opportunities to find out more about electronics which I believe is an area that will be very important in the future. Looking forward, this placement will provide me with valuable experience and opportunities. I would like to thank Farmex for the scholarship placement, and in particular I would like to thank Mr Crabtree for making the interview day an interesting and enjoyable experience.
“During my A Levels, I enjoyed maths and physics which is where my enthusiasm for engineering developed; I started my course at Harper Adams with a small amount of practical engineering experience however, in my first year I was encouraged to widen my skills in this area.
“I am very passionate about supporting and encouraging more females to be involved with engineering, therefore I have started the Stellar Harper Engineers: a group to encourage and promote female engineers in Harper and the local community.
“When I am not studying, I enjoy traveling around Britain and beyond, I also enjoy performing with the Music Society at university, of which I am also the secretary. My love for music has improved my confidence as I have learned how to control my nerves when playing at live performances and it has also developed my teamwork skills by playing with various bands and orchestras. Being a member of the society, many opportunities have been presented to me; from playing with the school orchestra to performing full solo recitals, to playing with the Royal Marines Band!”
